SuperSet Studio 1.6: your own samples, and every sample seen and heard

SuperSet Studio 1.6 is out. It adds the biggest change since the first release: you can now make sounds from your own WAV files on your computer, and look inside every sample of your sets.

Make sounds from your own WAV files (Nautilus)

Open Multisamples > New from WAV files and add your WAV files, or drop them on the window. SuperSet Studio finds the original key of each file from the sound and spreads the files across the keyboard. Drag the start, end and loop, set the gain and fades, and press Play to hear it exactly as it will be saved. Then choose a plain Init Program, or one that sounds like a Program from one of your sets, and click Create.

The new Multisample and its Program go into a set of your own called “My Samples – Nautilus”. Add the Program to your SuperSet like any other sound, and its samples travel with it when you export.

Making samples from WAV files is for the Nautilus. For a Kronos it is not available yet.

See and hear every sample

Multisamples > Sample Editor opens any set you have imported. Every sample is listed with its waveform and three markers: where it starts, where the loop starts, and where it ends. Play it once, or with its loop the way a held note sounds. Used by shows the Multisamples, Programs and Combinations that use it.

Switch to Multisamples and a full keyboard shows which sample every key plays, where each sample’s range begins and ends, and the looped part of each sample. The Sample Editor only reads your sets and never changes them, and it works with sets from both keyboards.

• Every Nautilus SuperSet is now built on an empty Nautilus set that comes with the app, whichever sets its sounds come from. Loading it replaces only the Program and Combination banks it uses, and every other bank on your keyboard stays as it was.
• When a Kronos sound comes into a Nautilus SuperSet, the other sounds that travel with it in its bank are now empty (“Init”) instead of showing names that make no sound.
• A Kronos SuperSet is built on one of your own Kronos sets, and no longer accepts sounds from a Nautilus set, which the Kronos cannot load. The export names those sounds and says what to do.
• The window that asks where a sound goes now looks like the Nautilus’s own Program Select: bank buttons A to T on the left and the bank’s slots on the right, in one step. Sounds you have already placed show in their slots, and each bank shows whether it is HD-1 or EXi, so a sound only goes where it can play.
• The export now asks for its name before you choose the folder.
• Adding a second sound to a bank without adding it to a Set List no longer replaces the first one.
• Dialogs now follow the light or dark theme you chose.
• The load instructions inside an exported package now name the files that are actually in it.

How to update

SuperSet Studio offers the update the next time you open it. If you are on version 1.4.4 or older, download the installer once from your account page; from then on, updates install themselves.
